Walton Smith Consultants – Quantity Surveyors on the new Walgett 16M Police Station

Posted by

One of the more exciting projects Walton Smith Consultants have been involved in recently is the construction of the new Walgett police station. They had their grand opening on 21st of September this year.

The $16 million building was opened by the Governor of NSW, Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley, AC, DSC (Ret’d), NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice and Police Troy Grant and NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione.

This was a 15 month long project for Walton Smith Consultants. During the construction phase we provided cost plan services and contract administration.

This state-of-the-art facility has been a long time coming for the Walgett and surrounding communities. It is a big step forward as they are now equipped with the same state of the art facilities as their metropolitan counterparts.

It is great to be a part of a project that protects and supports regional and remote communities in NSW.

Another Diverse Quantity Surveying Project in the Bathurst area for Walton Smith Consultants

Standing in the heart of Bathurst is the Catholic Cathedral of St Michael and St John. The Cathedral was built in 1865 to the design of an English architect, and has watched over the extensive Catholic Diocese of Bathurst for almost 150 years.  2015 is the Bicentenary of the Cathedral and the Catholic Diocese.

This building has recently been placed on the NSW State Heritage Register in recognition of its wider significance, and with the help of the Bathurst community the Cathedral Restoration Appeal has now started to restore this historic building to its original glory.

Christo Aitken, the conservation architect for the restoration, who is based in Bathurst and the Blue Mountains, contacted Walton Smith Consultants and invited us to be engaged as Quantity surveyors to advise the Catholic Diocese and the Restoration Committee on the cost of the restoration together with a range of longer-term master plan options.

Walton-Smith Consultants are proud to say that we were selected as the Quantity Surveyors for the restoration of this beautiful Cathedral. Walton-Smith Consultants will be providing Quantity Surveying and Cost Planning services, which will help the Diocese and the restoration committee to prepare financially for the restoration of the Cathedral of St Michael and St John.  The vision recently articulated by the Diocese for the future of the building and its community is ‘Restore, Rebuild, Renew’…and Walton-Smith Consultants will be there every step of the way!

Summer in the Western Region!

Posted by

Summer in the Western Region can get hot, very hot. All you may want to do is curl up under the air conditioner or swim in your pool but it is important to remember to take care of your home. There are a few little things you can do around your home to help it withstand the pressure of Summer.

Bush fires plague Australia every summer and to keep your home safer, clear all debris from your guttering and surrounding areas to your home. It also looks tidier, which is a bonus!

Clean your rain water tank. It’s a dirty job but when the rain comes it will be time well spent. Make sure to clean the strainer to the water inlet of the tank. Often it will build up grime and restrict water flow and in a drought like ours every bit counts.

Monitor the paint to the timber fascia boards at the mitre joints as the paint will start to lift and crack in the heat so you will want to seal the paint to protect it from summer to winter weather.

Spring is here,

Which means a busy time for pre-purchase inspections, with many homeowners choosing this time of year to put their properties on the market with a fresh coat of paint. The  purchase of a home for most, is usually the biggest expense in a persons lifetime.

Things are not always what they seem on the surface and a pre-purchase  report provides a detailed analysis of the condition of the property in an easy to understand format. This helps when making the decision to go ahead with the purchase, understanding fulling what is involved.
